Overview

I conducted a UX/UI review for an enterprise, data-driven platform to identify usability issues, visual inconsistencies, and opportunities to improve clarity and ease of use prior to further development.

The engagement focused on evaluating an existing prototype and providing actionable, prioritized recommendations to help the product team refine the experience and reduce friction before additional engineering investment.

The Problem

While the platform supported complex functionality, several aspects of the interface created unnecessary cognitive load for users:

  • Inconsistent visual hierarchy across screens
  • UI patterns that were not always intuitive or self-explanatory
  • Limited affordances around key actions and data interpretation
  • Areas where accessibility and readability could be improved

These issues risked slowing adoption and reducing user confidence.

The Solution

I conducted a structured UX/UI review to:

  • Identify high-impact usability and design issues
  • Evaluate visual hierarchy, spacing, and layout consistency
  • Assess accessibility considerations such as contrast, typography, and interaction states
  • Deliver clear, implementation-ready recommendations aligned with UX best practices

Findings were documented and prioritized to support efficient iteration.

Results & Impact

Provided clear, prioritized recommendations for immediate improvement

Surfaced critical usability issues early in the product lifecycle

Helped the team align design decisions with user expectations

Reduced risk of costly rework later in development

Contraints & Consideration

  • Short timeline focused on evaluation rather than redesign
  • Review conducted on a partially complete prototype
  • Scope intentionally excluded code-level audits or engineering inspection
  • Recommendations needed to balance UX improvements with development feasibility

Research & Discovery

Given the evaluative nature of the project, discovery was conducted through:

  • Heuristic analysis using established UX principles
  • Review of core user flows and high-traffic screens
  • Assessment of visual hierarchy and information grouping
  • Accessibility and readability checks

This approach enabled rapid insight generation without requiring extensive user research.

Key Insights

  • Clear hierarchy is essential for helping users interpret complex information
  • Consistency across components and layouts reduces cognitive load
  • Small UI refinements can significantly improve perceived quality and trust
  • Accessibility considerations improve usability for all users, not just edge cases

Design & Exploration

Rather than producing high-fidelity redesigns, exploration focused on:

  • Alternative layout approaches to improve clarity
  • Recommendations for component consistency and interaction feedback
  • Simplified information grouping and labeling
  • Opportunities to reduce visual noise while preserving data density

These explorations informed concrete, realistic recommendations.

Development Collaboration

I worked closely with the product team to:

  • Clarify intent behind recommendations
  • Align UX improvements with technical constraints
  • Prioritize changes based on impact and effort

This collaboration ensured the review was practical and actionable.

Validation & Exploration

Validation occurred through:

  • Team walkthroughs of findings
  • Discussion of tradeoffs and implementation considerations
  • Agreement on priority areas for iteration

Future validation opportunities include usability testing once recommended changes are implemented.

Reflection

This project reinforced the value of early UX evaluation. A focused review can surface issues that meaningfully impact usability and user confidence, even without a full redesign.

With additional time, I would pair this review with moderated usability testing to validate assumptions and quantify improvements.
